Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get an API key?+
Contact your Milesight IoT Cloud account administrator or log in to the Milesight IoT Cloud console. Navigate to Settings > API Keys to generate a new API key. You will receive a bearer token that must be included in the Authorization header of every request as Bearer YOUR_API_KEY.
What endpoints are available?+
The API provides endpoints for device management (GET /devices, POST /devices), telemetry data retrieval (GET /telemetry), gateway management (GET /gateways), and alert monitoring (GET /alerts). Each endpoint supports JSON request and response formats. The base URL is https://api.milesight.cloud/v1.
Is there a rate limit?+
Yes, the Milesight IoT Cloud API enforces a rate limit of 100 requests per minute per API key. Exceeding this limit will return a 429 Too Many Requests response. We recommend implementing exponential backoff in your integration. Contact support if you need a higher rate limit.
What authentication method is used?+
The API uses Bearer token authentication. Include your API key in the Authorization header as: Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY. All requests must be made over HTTPS. Tokens can be generated and revoked from the Milesight IoT Cloud console at any time.
Can I test endpoints without an API key?+
This playground simulates API responses so you can explore the request and response format without a real API key. To test against the live Milesight IoT Cloud API, you will need a valid API key from your account. The simulated responses closely mirror the real API format.
